They started by writing a food blog, today they run a renowned Prague café, a newly opened bistro, and are living out many a fulfilled dream. Petr and Gábi. Food lovers who are not afraid to experiment, explore, and transform their passion into something we can taste today. We asked the founders of Etapa and Šodó about their shared home, its transformation with the birth of their daughter Beátka, and tips for must-have cookbooks.
Your apartment is beautiful. Can you tell us more about how you found it?
It might surprise many people, but we found it on Bazos a few years ago.
How long did it take for you to truly feel at home there?
The apartment underwent a complete renovation, which was challenging and lasted about a year. Once we finished it, we got the gas stove working, brought in our mattress, and that "we're home" feeling came immediately.

The most comfortable way to lounge on a cozy sofa is with soft pillows and a throw.
What do you think makes a home?
Plants, books, the smell of food, and scattered shoes.
And how does it smell?
Like our dog Jonáš.
Do you have favorite interior scents or candles?
I love heavier scents and I often return to the P.F. Candle Co. brand, which has candles as well as incense sticks.
Which room do you spend the most time in?
In the living room, which is connected to the kitchen. It's large, airy, and gets the most daylight.

The kitchen, dining room, and living room form a cozy space full of wood, plants, and books.
How would you describe your apartment in three words?
Cozy, chaotic, yet airy.
How often do you change things, move things around, or relocate things in your home?
Very often. We love change. We change something every month, so our apartment is constantly in motion.
Which piece of furniture did you search for the longest?
The oak bed. Beautiful, clean design from the dearest BUDU.

An oak bed dressed in Old Memories, Quiet Jungle, and Monochrome Melange collections.
Did you make anything in the apartment yourselves?
Only a few drawn pictures. And Petr's mom sewed us a tent that hangs above Beátka's bed.
How has your home changed since Beátka's birth?
It has become more colorful. We started to feel the need to surround ourselves with more colors that are vibrant and evoke a sense of playfulness and joy.

The children's room is Gábi's favorite place.
What do you think makes any space cozy?
A plant, a beautiful lamp with the right bulb, and a soft blanket.
And what should everyone have at home?
That's a tough question. Probably a quality mattress and bedding. After all, we spend about a third of our lives in bed.
What feeling does freshly made bedding evoke in you?
Childhood. When my mom would cover me with a cold blanket. And also summer at Grandma's.

"A plant, a beautiful lamp with the right bulb, and a soft blanket."
